Duties
We are looking for a Commercial Lines Underwriter Trainee to join our team in our Leawood, KS office.
In this position you will be responsible for the following duties:
Evaluates property & casualty insurance applications to determine the risk involved: assists in deciding to accept or reject the application; assists in determining appropriate premium.
Interacts with and learns the role of other groups (marketing, loss control, claims, administration, etc.)
Assists in determining the acceptability, conditions and pricing of specific property & casualty insurance risks and associated coverage.
Maintains familiarity with the products, services, priorities and target markets in the property & casualty line of business or insurance segment.
Maintains familiarity with the loss experience and business conditions of key accounts as well as loss trends and any major legal or economic factors affecting the property & casualty line of business.
Communicates effectively with colleagues in underwriting, marketing and all support areas in order to meet the property & casualty insurance needs of customers.
May accompany senior underwriter or marketing representative on appointments in assigned territory.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will have:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Internal candidates may be considered for Underwriter I title based on PHLY and industry experience.
Ability to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships with clients, vendors, and peers
Basic knowledge of insurance products
Analytical and problem solving mindset
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented and interested in learning the insurance field
Ability to work in a fast paced environment
