Duties

We are looking for a Specialty Underwriter Trainee to join our Excess Casualty team in July 2023!

Summary -

Working under direct supervision, underwrites and markets assigned products by providing basic risk assessment and technical underwriting to determine underwriting acceptability or may provide support and assistance by handling administrative and routine underwriting tasks.  May provide basic level of financial analysis to determine credit quality.

A typical day will include the following:

• Reads, studies and learns basic technical underwriting principles of the assigned line of business.
• Learns to apply appropriate underwriting techniques necessary to make an accurate evaluation of acceptability of the risk and provide recommendation.  May evaluate credit quality
• Maintains and updates underwriting files, as requested.
• Supports and participates in proposals to producers and/or accounts negotiating terms and conditions.
• Supports and participates in marketing activities within the region to promote the development of new business or may support underwriting staff using necessary systems, forms, methods and procedures.
• Assists in the producer management process which may include, but is not limited to, assessment of premium collections

Qualifications

Successful candidates will have:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
• Ability to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships with clients, vendors, and peers
• Basic knowledge of insurance products
• Analytical and problem solving mindset
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Detail-oriented and interested in learning the insurance field
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment
